Paul's Story
Some of
the anecdotes I given you already, but all in all, we had a good time,
and it was long hours in most cases,
when you were compiling, testing, and verifying results.
Some of these long hours lasted through the night. I remember working
24 hours straight on a problem Rio de Janeiro
had when we first came out with hooking up multiple computers to one
system.
This particular system was a large plant in Rio and could not be down
for more than one day.
We flew a person down to Rio, hooked up to the phone with him when he
arrived at the plant and debugged over the phone.
The first person I talked to could not speak English, only Portuguese,
so I had to find someone in Rochester who spoke
the language, and tell me what his problem was. The security officers
at Rochester broadcast over the
loud speaker system asking if anyone at the Rochester plant could speak
Portuguese to call
me. After that, we finally got with the person sent down there and
solved their problem about
4 a.m. the next day.
